Cyprus Airways Remains Positive on Air Travel Market Recovery

Cyprus’s flag carrier has used this recent time of limited mobility to gather its strengths and rewrite its strategic plan. All indications show its recovering in the right direction. It recently added two new aircraft (Airbus A320) with space for 180 passengers to its fleet and employed 10 additional crews (50 people) to operate the new aircraft.

A commitment of over 50 million worth of aircraft, changes in the top team, and thorough strategy change in pricing and distribution clearly indicated results with the to-date July load factors are unprecedented. Athens secured a 97 percent, Tel Aviv 95 percent, Thessaloniki 100 percent, Heraklion 99 percent, Beirut 88 percent load factors.

Paul Sies, CEO, of Cyprus Airways, said, “We are very proud of the great work our teams have done the past months and are happy to see we can help so many happy guests get to their destinations. We are even helping many passengers that were stranded as their airline of choice cancelled or delayed their flights.”

According to the European Travel Commission, Europe will recover 70 per cent of pre-COVID-19 travel demand this year and continue to grow into a positive direction. Cyprus’ flag carrier is ready for the challenge of the high travel demands of our people as well as offering capacity to other airlines to help them cope with issues. In July and August one of the Cyprus Airways aircraft is stationed in Riga operating on behalf of the national carrier Air Baltic.

“We will be adding additional frequencies to the most popular destinations this fall to allow even more people to benefit from the best value for money Cyprus Airways offer.” Sies added, “We believe that connectivity to the country is essential to allow the tourism industry and related economy recover to its fullest. With consumer behavior changing rapidly and more people trying to avoid the peak travel we believe it’s time the Cypriot Government invests in winter (year-round) tourism. For that to happen year-round connectivity to Cyprus is key. Cyprus Airways under its new strategic plan is the best positioned partner for the Government to achieve this.”
