Attendees had the opportunity to see the admittedly worthy upgrades made to the two renovated wings, as well as the new hall dedicated to impressive sarcophagi.
Despite the delays, Larnaca authorities were satisfied with the result of the upgrades, which they deemed to be of excellent quality thanks to the inclusion of several exhibits that have been grouped thematically, and specifically, the exhibition of daily life of ancient inhabitants of the island that have been divided into sections that tell a story of their life, arts and rituals.
One wing traces a chronological course from 800 BC up until the 12th century BC, with an exceptionally rich collection of exhibits. The second wing includes a hall dedicated to Ancient Kition, with an adjacent hall dedicated to the sanctuaries of Mesaoria where life-size statues are on display.
According to the minister of transport, the inauguration of the museum is expected to take place around January 2022. It is also noteworthy that the museum will be fully accessible for disabled persons and that entry will be free.
On their part, the Larnaca authorities expressed the hope that the schedule will be adhered to this time so that both locals and visitors to Larnaka can enjoy the region’s unique treasures housed at the truly impressive Larnaka District Archaeological Museum.
