A significant action to combat the issue of decreasing fish stocks and the flat seabed’s lack of havens for marine life was recently taken with the submerging of the Lambousa II vessel at Larnaca Marine Protected Area (MPA) in Voroklini.

The Cyprus Institute for Maritime and Shipping (CMMI), the Cyprus Youth Organisation, the Larnaca Tourism Board (LTB) and the Geoimaging Company announced the holding of the original "Give a Name" competition.

On December 07, Elpida, a 63 m long boat, brought from Greece, was sunk off the coast of Cyprus to in order to form an artificial reef.

Following a deal between Polis of Chrysochus Municipality and Cyprus Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, it has been decided that the area stretching from Latchi all the way to Anassa will become an artificial reef.
