Sunnyseeker Hotels is the largest hotel group in the Larnaca region and opened the region’s first hotel by an international brand, the Radisson Blu. The group currently operates six hotels and serviced apartments and has an additional three hotels in the pipeline branded under the Radisson, Intercontinental and Best Western chains.
Polyviou had no doubts of where he wanted to focus the company’s portfolio, as he explained, “We selected Larnaca for two major reasons; first is our love for Larnaca, and secondly, because we strongly believe that Larnaca is the island’s region that has the greatest potential for development.”
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the island’s hotels suspended operations from March 20, as part of the plans to halt the spread of the virus. Polyviou said this is a testing time for the industry – especially with the company’s original plans to open its additional three hotels for this summer season.
“The hotel Industry in general is facing a very difficult period with a lot of challenges ahead of us. We predict that the best-case scenario for this year is a decrease of a minimum of 50 percent for incoming tourists, although the impact will be felt more in some regions,” he added.
Sunnyseeker Hotels had planned to open the new Hotel Indigo and Best Western Premier Collection in April this year. Polyviou said that the plan is to now officially open them as soon as the Covid-19 restrictions are lifted.
As the Radisson Beach Resort Larnaca is not completed yet, there is a possibility to postpone its opening for a few months, but the CEO said that no final decision has been taken yet.
