Ryanair's Cyprus Base Strengthened with an Additional Aircraft and Five New Routes

Ryanair held a press conference on November 21 which was attended by the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Yannis Karousos, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Savvas Perdios, Eleni Kalogirou, executive advisor, Hermes, and the Commercial Director of Ryanair, Jason McGuinness.

During the press conference it was announced the strengthening of the company's base in Paphos with an additional aircraft, a move which will strengthen existing frequencies, but also create five new routes, to Naples, Toulouse, Poznań, Bordeaux and Athens. The airline's summer schedule for the year 2023 exceeds 260 weekly flights, a total investment of 400 million dollars.

This announcement is a result of the new incentive plans, a joint goal of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works of the Ministry of Tourism and the managing company of the Hermes airports. It is expected that the implementation of the new incentive plan will bring about a 52 percent increase in the number of passengers from approximately nine million in 2022 to 13.7 million in 2027.

In the context of the press conference, Karousos stated that, "The liberalisation of the market, which concerns ground handling services provided at airports, has brought about a reduction in the cost of services provided, which in turn makes our airports more competitive. Through the development of a competitive environment, airlines have already benefited with significant reductions in their service costs."
