Cyprus Airways Announces May 2023 Results

Cyprus Airways recently announced its May passenger results during which it carried 66,998 passengers (48,929 scheduled passengers and another 18,069 passengers on ACMI and Charter Flights) - more than four times last year (May 2022: 14,735).

During May, the Cypriot flag carrier operated 370 scheduled flights (May’2022: 214 flights) and improved its load factor by 14 percentage points. Compared to May 2019, before the start of the pandemic, Cyprus Airways carried 55% more passengers on its scheduled services and operated 38 percent more flights. If one includes ACMI and charter traffic, the airline has doubled its passengers over May 2019 (May 2019: 31,509).

“In a few days’ time we will have all our 18 destinations for summer 2023 operational. As we add more destinations, frequencies and improve our network, we are continuing to grow month on month. Over the last few weeks, we have expanded our connectivity with multiple weekly frequencies to the European hubs of Zurich, Prague, Basel and Milan and to the international gateways of Dubai and Cairo. Our model of adding routes, frequencies and improving connectivity is bearing fruit as we are now the 3rd largest carrier in Cyprus for the past 10 months,” said Paul Sies, chief executive, Cyprus Airways.

“Despite aggressive and at times pointless competition on several of our routes, we are in a strong position to achieve further passenger growth and continue assisting the tourism sector by improving Cyprus’ international connectivity. With new more environmentally friendly aircraft soon joining our fleet, coupled with the strengthening of our network with new airline partnerships, we will leave no stone unturned to continue in our efforts to welcome more tourists to the Island, whilst serving the Cypriot community and its tourism industry, all year round,” added Sies.

“We are looking forward to the coming summer months during which we will welcome new additions to our fleet that will drive forward our environmental sustainability agenda with greener aircraft models and a totally new passenger experience. The new aircraft models will deliver a 40 percent reduction in CO2 emissions and a totally new customer comfort standard”, emphasised Sies.
