Hermes Airports: The Lemonade Project

Hermes Airports remained committed to its environmental culture and further expanded its sustainability initiatives with an aim to protect the environment, in a joint campaign with KEAN, with the support of Cyprus Airports food and beverages and ICTS Cyprus.

Specifically, this past February, Hermes Airports staff collected the lemons from the 120 lemon trees located at Larnaca Airport surrounding areas. Then, the lemons were delivered to KEAN factory where the lemonade was produced.

The lemonades were available for sale at the departures area of Larnaca Airport until the end of August, and all proceeds will be used for initiatives focusing on the protection of the environment.

These initiatives included the donation of drones to the Cyprus Forestry Department for fire monitoring and prevention, offering small trees to the public to plant at their homes and the installation of electric cars charging station. Concurrently, a number of lemonades were purchased by the members of the Cyprus Hotels Association and the Association of Cyprus Tourist Enterprises (ACTE), which will be offered at their units.

Maria Kouroupi, senior manager of aviation development and communication, Hermes Airports stated, “At Hermes Airports, we have a holistic approach to sustainable development, and the protection of the environment is a main priority for us. We remain focused on implementing ‘green initiatives’ aiming to reduce the footprint on the environment from the operation of the airports of our country. We hope that our collaboration with KEAN, Cyprus Airports F&B and ICTS Cyprus will evolve and become an institution, further enhancing our environmental culture”.

Maria Odysseos, deputy marketing manager, ΚΕΑΝ stated, “In the framework of KEAN Sustainability strategy, we materialise a number of environmental initiatives, contributing towards the protection of the environment. We gladly accepted the invitation by Hermes Airports, as we support innovative projects which aim amongst others to protect the environment.”
