Akrotiri-Dreamers Bay Excavations Completed

Cyprus Department of Antiquities and Cyprus Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works have announced the completion of this year’s season of excavations at Akrotiri-Dreamer’s Bay in Limassol.

Investigations focussed on the remains of stone buildings comprising elements of a late Roman, early Byzantine port facility, perhaps serving the major Greco-Roman city of Kourion.

Conducted by University of Leicester and with further analysis expected over a period of five years, the project is intended to document and record the endangered shoreline structures to establish their purpose and date.

The overall objective is to build up a fuller picture of the ancient port as part of the settlement landscape of the Akrotiri peninsula, on the southern coast of Cyprus and eastern Mediterranean seaways.
