Cyprus Department of Antiquities and Cyprus Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works have announced the completion of this year’s season of excavations at Geronissos Island.

Investigations focussed on what is said to represent the remains of an ancient harbour for the settlement from Hellenistic through to early Byzantine periods, with an international team of specialists and field school students, including a group from The Leon Recanati Institute for Maritime Studies at the University of Haifa carrying out preliminary underwater surveys around Geronissos Island and Manikis Harbour.

Conducted by New York University, the project aimed to better understand the connection between the island and the mainland.
