Experts Shed New Light on the Tombs of the Kings

Renewed research conducted at the Tombs of the Kings, one of the most important archaeological sites in Cyprus, suggests that rather than kings, it is actually high ranking officials and aristocrats who were buried at the site.

Michalis Lefatzis, director, restoration of ancient monuments, Hellenic Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with Theodoros Mavroyiannis, associate professor, ancient history department, University of Cyprus, have recently reached this conclusion.

The two experts have put together their knowledge and skills and identified a mausoleum belonging to the Ptolemaic Dynasty.

Dating back to 166-152 BC the mausoleum was probably created for Ptolemy Eupator.

Lefatzis and Mavroyiannis will be shortly in a position to make more important announcements regarding the new discovery.
