Andreas Vyra, mayor, Larnaca, initiated the torch which was lit by a ceremonial and symbolic torch relay at the event on Kimonos Square in Phinikoudes.

Vyra, stated, "A few days remain for the realisation of the big sporting event in our city, the First Radisson Blu of the International Marathon of Larnaca. [...] Multidimensional, since beyond sports and healthy engagement, it looks forward to supporting and collaborating with Foundations and Organized Groups that provide community service such as the Karaiskakis Foundation, the Hope for Children Organisation, Movember Movement and Special Olympics Cyprus.”
