Following the record of airline bankruptcies in 2017, the European Travel Agents & Tour Operators Association (ECTAA) is requesting the European Commission to introduce specific European legislation that would create a mandatory mechanism for airlines to protect passengers from bankruptcies, the cost of which would be included in the airfare. This protection mechanism should apply to European airlines and, to the maximum extent, to non-European airlines for tickets they sell within Europe.
