The 18-month pilot phase began in December 2017 and encompasses visits to restaurants and local food producers and retailers. CTO briefs the businesses on the scheme and gauges their interest, which CTO believes is significant.
Of the 52 meetings undertaken by mid-May this year, 38 have resulted in applications to participate within the pilot scheme.
Applications are evaluated by CTO, with the participation of Cyprus Chefs Association and local conservation body, Euro-toques Cyprus, in cooperation with Larnaka Tourism Board and Larnaca Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Companies considered the most prepared for certification were targeted first, and once a large enough group is amassed, businesses will be awarded with their certification during a dedicated ceremony.
Once certified, companies will be permitted to use the certification on their products, be promoted through the project’s website and official social media accounts.
