Ayia Napa Celebrates International Museum Day

Ayia Napa celebrated this year’s International Museum Day on May 18.

Hosted at Thalassa Municipal Museum’s amphitheatre and organised by Ayia Napa Municipality, this year’s event included celebratory dance performances by Rhythmos Dance Group.

International Museum Day is organised internationally by International Council of Museums (ICOM). The event highlights a specific theme that changes every year and that is relatable or current. This year’s theme was Hyperconnected museums: New approaches, new publics.

According to ICOM, International Museum Day is an occasion to raise awareness on how important museums are in the development of society. Significantly, over the past couple of years, International Museum Day has been experiencing its highest participation with almost 30,000 museums having organised activities in more than 120 countries, including Cyprus.
