Larnaca Residents to Protest Fuel Storage Site

Residents of Larnaca, Livadhia and the region at large, plan to stage a protest march against the ongoing presence of fuel storage facilities in the area.

The protest, entitled Getting the Message Across, is due to take place at 19:00 on June 20.

It has two starting points from which participants will march to the fuel storage site. From Larnaca, it will begin at the Port roundabout and from Livadhia, from the Livadhia roundabout by Intercollege.

According to the protest’s organisers, the residents object to the ongoing presence of petroleum product and gas storage facilities in their area, which, they say, both jeopardises their health and prevents positive development.

Calls for the storage tanks’ removal began in 2001, and Cabinet in 2014 ruled the state’s fuel reserves would be moved to a site in Vasiliko.
