In 2014, the average individual visits to a medical professional in Cyprus and Sweden numbered less than three times per year, while in Slovakia and Hungary, the annual frequency reached as much as 11 visits per person. Dentist consultations proved less popular in all states.
Romania and Cyprus recorded the lowest frequencies of less than one dentist consultation per person every two years.
On the contrary, the dentists in Netherlands were visited annually 2.6 times per person, reaching the highest average number among the EU states.
In all analysed member states, women dominated the numbers of medical visits.
For general practitioners, the gender gap was the smallest in Cyprus, less than three percentage points.
