Europe Day is celebrated every year throughout the EU on May 09. The date marks the anniversary of the historic speech given in Paris on the of May 09, 1950 by the French foreign minister, Robert Schuman. His proposal for a new form of political cooperation in Europe, which would prevent war between Europe’s nations, is considered to be the beginning of what now is the EU.
Europe Day gives us the opportunity to remember and celebrate the ideas and values on which the EU is founded, and all that unites us as Europeans.
As every year, the event on Europe Day in Cyprus is open to the public.
