The EU Joint Mediterranean Fisheries Control Program effectively pools the resources and resources of seven Union Member States - Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal and Spain - and covers all stages of the supply chain, including at-sea controls in EU waters and in international waters. The European Fisheries Control Agency coordinates joint inspection and control activities involving MS vessels.
The Italian patrol boat Nave Gregoretti CP took part in the campaign -920, which operated in three different parts of the eastern Mediterranean from November 07-28 (November 07-12, November 15–20, and November 23-28).
The last leg, November 23-28, concerned exclusively the control within the Cyprus EEZ. The Italian sophisticated vessel is part of the Italian Coast Guard fleet and part of the navy, with a total length of 62 m and is manned by a staff of more than 30 people.
In addition to the crew, a total of nine Fisheries Control Inspectors participated : Specifically from Italy (four),from Cyprus (three), Greece (one) and the European Fisheries Control Agency (one). The presence of this Italian patrol boat in our region confirms the importance of mobilising the means of control and surveillance of all EU waters, including the eastern Mediterranean. Cyprus welcomed the Italian initiative that provided the means and human resources to carry out the patrol at sea.
The campaign was a great success. 18 fishing vessels were inspected and 16 infringements were recorded.
