The European Community Shipowners Associations (ECSA), which includes the national shipowners' associations of the European Union, held a meeting of its board of directors on June 30, in Brussels.

On June 25 the international shipping community celebrates annually the ‘Day of the Seafarer’, which was set by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) in 2011.

The Cyprus Shipping Chamber (CSC) held with success its 33rd Annual General Meeting on May 03, at the Four Seasons Hotel, in Limassol. The Cyprus Shipping Chamber welcomes the positive results of the recently released ‘Ship Management Report’, which is published by the Statistics Department of the Central Bank of Cyprus, covering the period January 01 – June 30, of this year, which indicate that the ship management sector marked a gradual recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and the associated decline in economic activity observed during 2020.

The 2nd CSN Cyprus Shipping ICT Conference brought together key industry experts from industry bodies, shipowners, ship managers, service providers and equipment manufacturers and have looked into at the operational aspects impacting the Cyprus Shipping ICT sector.

The Cyprus Shipping Chamber (CSC), as the trade association of the shipping industry in Cyprus, welcomes the successful completion of three years since the establishment of the Shipping Deputy Ministry, on March 01, 2018.

With the European Commission having announced in early 2020 an increased climate target for 2030 and aiming to extend the EU's Emission Trading System (EU ETS) to the shipping sector, the Cyprus Shipping Deputy Ministry organised a virtual debate entitled ‘ETS in Shipping: Elixir or Threat to Sustainability?’, on December 07, 2020, together with the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment and the European Parliament Office in Cyprus.

As governments come together at the UN International Maritime Organization (IMO) to consider important next steps to decarbonise maritime transport, the global shipping industry urgently calls on them to take forward its proposal for an industry-financed, USD5 billion research and development (R&D) programme, to catalyse the transformation of the industry from dependence on fossil fuels to operating with zero-carbon energy sources.
