Ayia Napa Municipality announced that 124,910 photos of Nissi Beach had been taken and uploaded onto the popular social media application, earning it third place overall. Globehunters ranked Salerno, Italy’s Positano beach with first place and the UK’s Brighton Beach came second.

Ayia Napa Municipality noted that three other Famagusta District beaches had made the top 60 list of the continent’s most Instagrammed beaches. Fig Tree Bay, Protaras took 20th spot; Konnos Beach, located between Paralimni and Ayia Napa 40th; and Makronissos, Ayia Napa 53rd.

Yiannis Karousos, mayor, Ayia Napa Municipality welcomed the accolade as being particularly significant, saying it demonstrated how popular Famagusta District beaches are on social media.
