In order for the dish to qualify for the record book, an adjudicator from the organisation set out requirements for the ingredients and, once completed, enforced the distribution of the salad to members of public.

The event, organised by Mouzenidis Travel and Ellinair, was part of the year-long celebration of Greece and Russia's long-standing relationship which began in the 9th century. Spectators also enjoyed music from a Greek military band and had the chance to win free trips to the Mediterranean country.
