Specifically, certification was awarded to the communities of Vouni, Kalopanayiotis, and Steni, which were evaluated on the basis of specific criteria.
Through the ‘Colourful Villages’ programme, the aim is to upgrade the image of the villages, to reduce visual pollution, to maintain cleanliness in prominent places, to improve the services and infrastructure offered, as well as to preserve and exploit the natural environment, based on respect for biodiversity.
The ultimate goal of the ‘Colourful Villages’ certification mark is the development of a culture for the preservation of the particular identity, the natural wealth and the cultural heritage of each community, while at the same time benefiting the local community, in the context of sustainable development.
The awarded villages will receive significant promotion both at home and abroad, by the Cyprus Deputy Ministry of Tourism, with the aim of increasing their traffic.
