During the visit, the Deputy Minister met with the Deputy Mayor of Frenaros, Costas Michael, and the Deputy Mayor of Liopetri, Markos Koumis, with whom she discussed issues related to the protection, conservation and promotion of the monuments of the area.

The Deputy Minister visited the Churches of Panagia Eleousa in Liopetri, Panagia Asprovouniotissa, Saints Andronikos and Athanasios, Archangel Michael and Saint Marina, as well as the Chapel of Saint Andronikos and the Chapel of Saint George (Potamos), which are in need of maintenance work.

Furthermore, Kassianidou was informed about the progress of the conservation and restoration works of the Church of Panagia Eleousa in Liopetri, where construction works totalling EUR100,000 have been completed, of the Churches of Panagia Asprovouniotissa, and of Saints Andronikos and Athanasios, for which studies are underway for the required conservation and restoration works.

Also, for the Church of Archangel Michael, in which construction works have been completed and the conservation of the frescoes continues, with the monument expected to soon be open to visitors, as well as for the Church of Saint Marina, in which the excavation of the Medieval Cemetery has been completed and the procedures for the commencement of conservation and restoration works are underway.

The Deputy Minister of Culture stated that the primary concern is the protection, preservation and promotion of our cultural heritage, through targeted interventions that ensure the sustainability and accessibility of monuments for future generations.

It is worth noting that the Churches of Panagia Asprovouniotissa and Archangel Michael have been included in an interactive 360° virtual tour by the Famagusta Tourist Development Company, contributing to the digital upgrade of the tourism product and the improvement of the visitor experience.
