Firstly, the new Municipal Market project is proceeding with tenders and is set to be a one-of-a-kind development for municipal markets on the island. Returning to its original home, which is currently a municipal car park, the two-storey, European Union-funded project will combine traditional stalls and artisan spaces with modern facilities, including cafes, restaurants, a stage for events, and a dedicated exhibition area.
The complete renovation of the Municipal Gardens is taking place on a grand scale while works will begin towards the end of 2018 to make Larnaca town centre more wheelchair and pushchair accessible.
There will be new squares and the construction or renovation of several leisure and entertainment venues including a Municipal Community Centre and Sports Hall and the restoration of the Zuhuri area including the creation of a 20-bed youth hostel and artists' meeting point.
