While welcoming Larnaca Municipality efforts to quicken the removal process, the Board suggested government agencies were not coordinating enough to get things moving faster.
“As a result, Larnaka Tourism Board calls on the President of the Republic to lead the effort so that work can be carried out as soon as possible and within a realistic timeframe,” read a Board statement. Noting the process was complicated, the Board also suggested a committee be set up to monitor the work, under the relevant government ministries’ supervision.
The Board also underlined the installation’s removal and area regeneration would benefit, not only the local community, but also the oil and gas companies themselves.
