According to Georgia Neophytou, music inspector, Ministry of Education and Culture, the aim of the event was to highlight the significance of different songs, the value of music in people’s lives and the message that during difficult days of social and economic crisis, Cyprus responds with culture.
To begin with, on the day of the event, a choir paraded while singing from Nicosia Town Hall to the streets of Ledra and Onasagorou. After the parade, a programme unfolded which included school choirs, school rock bands, vocal ensembles, award-winning DJs and guest star Yuri Melikov, from Greece’s The Voice. Overall, the programme included works by Greek and Cypriot composers, a classical repertoire, world music, traditional music and more than 1,000 choirs with choral and vocal ensembles.
Konstantinos Giorkatzis, mayor, Nicosia, commented, "Nicosia's desire is to make this action an institution, a need for cultural actions that contribute to the cultural development of the new generation that unites the citizens of all ages.”
