During the conference, Perdios presented the main objectives of the Cyprus National Tourism Strategy 2030, focusing on issues such as achieving balanced tourism development through, inter alia, the development of rural tourism, supporting local communities and promoting specific forms of tourism. He stressed the importance given to sustainability issues and related actions planned under the strategy.
Perdios also stressed the need to strengthen cooperation between the UNWTO and its island member states, especially in Europe, by placing Cyprus as a candidate body for the implementation of such cooperation.
For his part, Shanzhong praised Cyprus for its results and overall performance, as a tourist destination and expressed the readiness of UNWTO to support the efforts of the place, through specific ways, to provide a more authentic and quality tourist experience to its visitors.
At the end of the meeting, the intention of the two parties to further strengthen and expand their cooperation was stressed.
