Cyprus: Some of Europe’s Cleanest Waters

Around 99.1 percent of Cyprus’ bathing sites were of excellent water quality in 2015, according to the European Environment Agency and the European Commission. The relevant survey analysed samples at more than 21,000 coastal and inland bathing locations across the European Union,

Switzerland and Albania, identifying whether or not water has been contaminated by sewage or livestock pollution.

More than 90 percent of the sites investigated in eight member states achieved an outstanding water quality rate with Luxembourg topping the list, followed by Cyprus at the second and Malta at the third places, respectively.

Other top destinations included Greece, Croatia, Italy, Germany and Austria.
