After earlier announcing the plans to create the reefs in Larnaca as part of the region’s diving development programme, the destination is happy to reveal that the Fisheries Department has invited bids to prepare and sink the two vessels this year.
One being the Elpida 63 m long and which will be sunk to a depth of 30 m, and LEFI being 15 m long which will be sunk to a depth of 13-15 m.
Both will be sunk off the coast of Voroklini (along Larnaca-Dekeleia road). Thereafter, it will not take long until thriving artificial reefs are established, with a two-fold aim of enriching marine life and also offering divers increased options and experiences.
In tandem with the famous Zenobia wreck dive (which ranks as one of the top five worldwide), the new reef (the region's first!) will serve to make Larnaca an internationally recognised diving destination and attract novices and professionals alike.
