EU Project on Tourism Labour Shortages Successfully Concludes

The European project MAAS (Match, Attain and Sustain), in which the Larnaka Tourism Board participated as a partner from Cyprus, has successfully concluded, providing practical tools to address workforce shortages in the tourism and hospitality sector.

At a time when the hospitality industry in Cyprus and across Europe faces significant staffing challenges, the project strengthened the connection between tourism businesses and job seekers, placing particular emphasis on supporting and integrating Ukrainian refugees.

The project was implemented under Erasmus+ during the period 2023-2026, with partners from seven European countries. Its objective was to empower employment advisors and job brokers through modern methods and digital tools that facilitate the matching of skills with available positions and support sustainable employment.

As part of the project, a multilingual eGuide was developed, offering practical guidance and best practices for the tourism sector, along with the MAAS eTracker, a CRM-based digital platform that enables the recording of candidate profiles, monitoring of integration progress, and collaboration with employers. Additionally, research and interviews with tourism professionals and Ukrainian refugees in Cyprus helped identify the real workforce needs and skills gaps in the market, which were incorporated into the project’s deliverables.

The participation of the Larnaka Tourism Board in MAAS is part of its broader efforts to enhance workforce skills and strengthen the competitiveness of the tourism sector in Larnaka region. The project’s results will continue to be applied and disseminated throughout the network of local businesses, contributing to the development of a more resilient and inclusive tourism labor market.
