Arrivals from the UK were the main source of tourism this August, with a share of 32,1 percent (193.091) of total arrivals, followed by Israel with 17,5 percent (105.597), Poland with 7 percent (41.844), Germany with 4,6 percent (27.665), Sweden with 3,1 percent (18.636) and Romania with 3 percent (18.300).
For a percentage of 86,5 percent of tourists, the purpose of their trip this August was holidays, for 11,4 percent to visit friends and relatives and for 2,1 percent for business. Respectively, in August 2024, 87,3 percent of tourists visited Cyprus for holidays, 10,2 percent visited friends or relatives, and 2,5 percent visited Cyprus for business reasons.
A total number of 238.740 residents of Cyprus returned from a trip abroad in August of this year compared to 192.756 in the corresponding month in 2024, recording an increase of 23,9 percent. The main countries from which residents of Cyprus returned in August were Greece with a share of 33,1 percent (78.915), the UK with 6,8 percent (16.197), Russia with 5,1 percent (12.084) and Italy with 5 percent (11.824).
The purpose of travel for the residents of Cyprus this August was mainly holidays, with a percentage of 91,6 percent, whilst business reasons held a percentage of 6,7 percent, studies 1,3 percent and other reasons 0,4 percent.
