May 11 marked 20 years since the signing of the concession agreement between the Republic of Cyprus and Hermes Airports for the management of the international airports of Larnaca and Paphos—an agreement that ushered in a new era for the travel experience and for Cypriot tourism, leaving a strong imprint on the country’s broader economy.

In the first quarter of 2026, there were 471.1 million overnight stays in tourist accommodations across the EU, marking an increase of 3.4 percent compared with the same quarter of 2025. January recorded 143.5 million nights (+3.2 percent compared with January 2025), February 154.4 million (+3.4 percent) and March 173.2 million (+3.7 percent).

Air Astana has started a new direct service between Cyprus and Kazakhstan. The new route will operate twice weekly, every Tuesday and Saturday. In addition, from  June 04, 2026, the airline commenced direct flights from Almaty to Larnaca, operating every Thursday and Sunday.

In 2023, there were 9.4 million beehives on EU farms. This is a partial picture of all the beehives in the EU, because farm structure statistics only record beehives on farms. Compared with 2020, the number of beehives increased by 1.3 million (+16 percent), from 8.1 million.

Cyprus arrivals of tourists reached 303.031 in April of this year compared to 418.730 in April 2025, recording a decrease of 27,6 percent. For the period of January – April of current year, arrivals of tourists totalled 710.370 compared to 865.326 in the corresponding period of 2025, recording a decrease of 17,9 percent.

The Cyprus Coastal Regatta 2026 was successfully completed, concluding with the prize-giving ceremony held at Limassol Marina on May 02. The event drew many participants, visitors, and sailing enthusiasts.
