In his speech, Korneliou underlined that the International Decade for Action, Water for Sustainable Development is a timely and significant step that supports efforts to address today’s water challenges. Korneliou referred to the global frameworks agreed over recent years, notably Agenda 2030 and SDG 6 on water and sanitation, Paris Agreement and Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction as crucial when supporting the implementation of water related targets and goals. Korneliou also indicated the importance of water for Cyprus, which has been facing water scarcity, frequent droughts, and lately a rainfall decrease.
“Strongly supporting international and regional cooperation, we have also established bilateral and trilateral cooperation on issues of integrated water management with neighboring countries and organisations and we are committed to continue working in this area” concluded Korneliou.
