New Video of Mountainous ‘Rural Larnaka Honey Villages’

As part of the promotion of its Honey Route, Larnaca Tourism Board (LTB) has created a video that promotes the various activities and attractions that visitors can enjoy in the cluster of nine ‘Rural Larnaka Honey Villages’ located in the region’s mountainous areas.

The villages in question are collectively known for their production of superior quality honey and are home to a significant number of apiaries with a large number of hives. The beekeepers of the area offer interactive programmes, tours and workshops, as well as organising three annual festivals themed around beekeeping and honey.

The nine mountainous villages that comprise the ‘Rural Larnaka Honey Villages’ are: Agioi Vavatsinias, Kato Drys, Kato Lefkara, Lageia, Melini, Odou, Ora, Vavla and Vavatsinia.

The activities shown in the short video include, among others, the hands-on tour ‘Become a Beekeeper for a Day’, beekeeping tours, interactive workshops for creating cosmetics, candles and other crafts with honey and beeswax, honey tasting and thematic events.

Also presented are the ecological bee ‘hotels’ that encourage solitary bees; the Bee & Embroidery Museum in Kato Drys; the Bee Park in Melini, and the informative self-guided route ‘The Journey of Knowledge about Bees’ in Odou.

Traditional delicacies prepared with honey - such as donuts and nut brittle are also promoted as part of the wider goal to preserve and promote local recipes that use the beneficial ingredient of honey, and to encourage local restaurants to include honey recipes on their menus.
